When I was a kid in the 50s that corner shop was Hewison's Paper Shop.Behind it in earlier years was the 'C' Pit then later Leslies Stockyard

Patrick's shop was on Redhead Tce, Wagonway Rd and was the last of the old Colliery properties dating from 1855. Surely it should have been saved.

Inside RW Transmissions in the 1970s. The Factory was built by failed Newcastle Shipbuilding Co , then Geo Angus & also the Reay Gear Works

RW Transmissions made all different diameter gear wheels plus industrial gear boxes but closed years ago & a housing estate stands on the land today
